WAIT FOR... and WAIT TO... - what's the difference?

We use “Wait for…’ before a noun and/or a pronoun:

I am waiting for you.
I daily wait here for my bus.
Wait for a while, the doctor shall attend to you shortly.

“Wait for…’ can also be used with negatives and interrogatives:

I just can’t wait for Friday!! This reunion is going to be great!
Couldn’t you wait for me for 5 more minutes?? I was on my way!

We use “Wait to…’ before a verb:

I am waiting to go there since 4 days.
I will wait to buy new clothes till I get my pocket money next month.
I was waiting after the class yesterday to talk to the professor about my grades.

Similarly, “Wait to…’ can also be used with negatives and interrogatives:

I’m so hungry I can’t wait to have lunch!
Can’t you wait to play with my new puppy? He’s very friendly!
