In many countries, school-age children spend their free time doing homework. Is it a good or a bad thing? Give examples based on your own experience.

Homework has been a part of students’ lives for so long that the idea of not doing it in their free time can seem a little impossible. Some people believe that while it is important, homework should not be the only thing the kids do in their spare time.

It’s counterproductive to make children spend too many hours studying. Kids usually have seven hours of school. Most adults work similar lengths of time at work and come home exhausted. Similarly, children can become exhausted too. Besides, a full day at school is enough to learn anything. And given the amounts of homework given these days, children would have no time for other enriching and enjoyable activities like playing with friends or exercising or maybe even watching cartoons and having fun.

Children are still growing, their brains aren’t yet fully developed, and it’s crucial that they get a lot of exercise and free time. After school is the time for pursuing your own hobbies and personal pastimes. Children should not be burdened with homework. Another point to note is that the tuition class culture is very popular in many countries which again robs the children of their spare time and adds to the homework amount. This is not right on the part of the kids.

Reworking the teaching systems in class, so that the homework can be completed within the school hours seems like an effective option. Reducing the volume of homework is another. In their spare time, children should be completely stress-free to choose the activities they want to do.

In conclusion, I don’t think doing homework in their spare time is a good thing for children. Kids may have trouble focusing at the end of a full day of learning, and giving them time to do things they enjoy in their leisure time can prove to be more fruitful.
