Many people spend large amounts of money on celebrating birthdays and weddings. Others think it is unnecessary to spend so much on these events. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Throwing a party on celebrations like birthdays, and spending money for it is the most common thing to do; this, however, has gotten a bit out of hand lately. Some people feel the money being spent on such things nowadays is quite unnecessary. This essay shall justify whether this is actually so or not.

People celebrate when they are happy, like landing a good first job, or getting a promotion, getting engaged or married - these are some very important occasions in people’s lives. Naturally, calling close friends and relatives, and celebrating, would require money. However, the budget of the party would depend on an individual's view, situation and wealth. At the end of the day, the celebration needs to make you feel happy and content. So if it makes you worry about the expenses, then yes you are spending unnecessarily.

People spend money to get acceptance from others. It is a sad state of our society nowadays, that the more extravagantly one spends, the more prestigious he is considered to be. This may be a primary reason for why some people spend over-excessively in celebrations. This should be controlled and a person should take into account his financial situation before spending a lot.

The above being said, one cannot deny that celebration parties are an occasion to enjoy and have fun with your near and dear ones. For some people it doesn’t matter how much money is being spent; they value the memories and the experience more than the budget of the party. Celebrations are a great opportunity to find contentment in socialization and maintaining strong relationships with friends and families.

To sum up, I think celebrations are an essential part of a happy lifestyle, although they require money to be spent on. As long as people do not spend for the admiration of others, but for their own pleasure, I don’t think any spending can be considered unnecessary. After all, it’s their own money.
