Essay # 101

Some people think countryside life is healthier, while others believe city is better in order to have a healthy life style. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The life in urban and rural areas has its own pros and cons in terms of health and well-being. This essay shall discuss both sides of a city as well as a country lifestyle, and conclude with a personal preference.

In the countryside, pollution is less because cars and industries are not in abundance here. The main occupations here are labour-based like farming. Therefore, people get to breathe in the fresh air of the fields everyday and are in constant exercise due to the laborious nature of their work. Moreover, due to less population in villages, food crops are not sprayed with chemicals to grow faster. Hence, the food produced in villages is healthier.

On the other hand, medical facilities in villages are not up to the mark. In case of power failure, which is a frequent problem in rural areas, many crucial treatments to patients can be delayed. Also, villages that are in remote areas do not have quick access to hospitals. Plus, the quality of doctors in rural areas is also average. Major illnesses cannot be treated effectively in the countryside.

City areas have access to all the basic necessities. Drainage and sanitation systems of the urban areas are well-managed by the municipal authorities therefore common diseases are prevented from spreading. Cities have many big hospitals and many well-qualified doctors therefore the people are always facilitated with good medical care. People commute in vehicles in cities so they don’t have the need to bear the heat of the sun or the chill of the winter on roads.

However, city areas are a major centre for pollution. As we discussed that cities have a lot of vehicles, the smoke emitted from them, as well as from industries, makes the air quality poor. There have been many cases of lung disorders in the last decade in urban areas which indicates that city living has a poor health index. Due to population rise, land and water quality of the cities is also compromised.

To sum up, life in villages does have disadvantages when it comes to medical facilities, but overall, the standard of living is healthier. In cities, there is more risk of getting diseases, which is a heavier drawback that outweighs the benefit of having many hospitals and doctors. As the adage goes, prevention is always better than cure.
