Population increase
has brought a lot of problems. It has made people distant from one another and
quite comfortable in their own shells. This essay shall discuss the impacts of
this situation on the community, and the measures that can be taken to correct
this.
With the introduction
of technology and complementing gadgets that make our lifestyle comfortable, the
process of urbanisation has also dispensed certain practices that do not bode
very well for a sociable community. As people are becoming busy with their jobs,
they are feeling a greater need of their own ‘me time’ where they can indulge
in their preferred leisure activity.
People now think that
socializing as a tedious task that they have to do, rather than being a fun
opportunity to meet people and hang-out. Additionally, the phenomenon supplementing
this introverted attitude is that the people living in urban ‘metropolitan’
cities come from various parts of the world. So, there’s no uniformity of
culture that’ll imply sense of brotherhood without being said. People
apprehensively approach even their neighbours and just talk to them in inevitable
situations.
A sense of awareness
needs to be created among people regarding the long term effects of this loneliness
they are plunging into. Permanent residents of housing complexes can play an
important role here to step forward and get acquainted with the immigrants. A
daily greeting in the corridors can also break the ice between strangers. Community
events can be organized on a regular basis so that people participate and get
to know each other.
To conclude, I’d like
to say if a few people take an initiative, this distance between neighbours can
be bridged. Creating platforms for social interactions will enable people to
shed their inhibitions sooner or later and they will begin familiarizing
themselves with others living around them.
