In cities many people are living alone. What are the reasons for it? Is it a positive or a negative trend?

Living away from one’s family has become a common phenomenon today. People have started living alone due to various reasons like for their career, or a change of city (surroundings). This phenomenon is rising gradually, and I think this is a positive development, overall.

People have started moving to bigger cities and/or countries in search of better career options that result into a better, luxurious lifestyle. This is the chief reason why individuals decide to move away from their families alone, as their families may not want to leave their base and move with them. Another reason why people nowadays want to live alone is for want of personal space. The awareness regarding one’s individuality has become quite evident in people’s minds since the last few years. For this reason, they do not feel comfortable living with people who do not share the same interests. Instead of developing bitterness or resentment between family members because of these unique personality differences, people decide to move out and live alone in their own apartment or house.

It would be remiss to not mention the downsides of living alone. Weakening of family bonds is one of the main arguments that people make in this situation. It has also been observed that people who live alone often feel isolated, depressed and lonely due to lack of immediate emotional support. However, many people who live alone have confessed that they miss and value their families even more after they moved away. This example encourages us to ignore the few drawbacks of this phenomenon and take things in a positive stride.

To conclude, I believe that even with the downsides it brings, living alone is not entirely a negative situation. Of course, individual perspectives may differ, but on the whole, living alone is a positive development, and it may grow in the coming years.
