The given tables show the comparison of the sales figures for coffee and bananas labelled under fairtrade costs in five European countries between 1999 and 2004. The sales have been calculated in Euros.
As the table data demonstrates, the most substantial increase in sales of both coffee and bananas was in the UK. Overall, the sales of coffee increased in all the countries between 1999 to 2004, but the same cannot be said for sales of bananas.
Coffee sales in UK soared from 1.5 to 20 million euros. In 1999, Switzerland accounted for the largest market in coffee, with sales of 3 million euros that doubled in 2004.The sales amounts in Denmark, Belgium and Sweden were 1.8, 1 and 0.8 million Euros respectively in 1999, but they only had an increase of a few hundred thousand euros over the next five years.
As for the sales of bananas, Switzerland had the highest sales in 1999 of 15 million euros which was comparatively higher than the combined sales of the other countries, and this increased to 47 million euros in 2004. Banana sales in UK reached 5.5 million euros which was almost over five times higher than that in 1999. On the other hand, the sales in Sweden and Denmark declined in 2004.
