Many people believe that the government of a country should pay for health care and education of its citizens. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give your own opinion.

Government of any country is responsible for allocation of basic needs like medical and educational facilities, to its citizens. However some people feel that the entire cost for the usage of these facilities should also be borne by the government. This essay shall discuss the feasibility of this opinion.

Health care and education are a part of any country’s social welfare system. In a lot of countries, the government does run health centres which treat the patients free of cost, but it is only limited to impoverished people. The same mechanism also works in education where primary education centres are free for the poor, after that level the citizens need to bear the cost of education. People also argue for the government to be responsible to pay for both these things against the tax taken from them for their welfare. This model for the poor is seen in overpopulated and developing countries where the government is unable to meet the medical and educational demands of every citizen. Thus, it tries to provide financial help for these fundamental facilities to the people who need it the most. This is where privatisation should step in.

If there are private companies who fund education and health care in the country, it would take a great burden off the government. Private companies or individuals may even provide better quality of services due to eventual competition among each other. Also, if the government pays for everything, the dependence of people on this help would increase. It is much better if government pays for these facilities for the needy and to a fundamental level. The individuals who can afford the same should do their part in the social system and not expect undeserving assistance from the government.

To conclude, I don’t agree that the government should pay for all the health and education benefits for the people. In addition, capable individuals and private organizations can help the government provide these basic needs for free to the people who are deprived of it.
