There is an argument between scientists regarding wild animals. Some of them believe in saving wild animals of all kinds, others, however, are interested in saving only particular species. Discuss both views, give your own opinion and examples.

It is estimated that by the year 2025, as many as one fifth of all animal species may be lost, that is gone forever. In recent times, hundreds of species have become extinct as a result of human activities. The debate between scientists on whether to save only a particular endangered species or all of them surely poses a question against our selfishness as human beings.

Although extinctions occur naturally, scientific evidence strongly indicates that the current rate of extinction is much higher than the natural rate of the past. The main force driving this higher rate of loss is habitat loss. Over-exploitation of wildlife for commercial purposes, environmental pollution, and the spread of diseases also pose serious threats to our world’s biological heritage. Therefore we cannot just turn our backs on our responsibility of fixing the damage that we are doing to our fellow living beings.

Saving just a few species that are beneficial to us is preposterously thoughtless. The people supporting this notion are not realizing the significance of natural diversity for our ecosystem. According to many articles and surveys done regarding wildlife habitats, the earth’s biosphere, is composed of countless ecosystems, which include plants and animals and their physical environments. No one knows how the extinction of organisms will affect the other members of its ecosystem, but the removal of a single species can set off a chain reaction affecting many others.

It cannot be denied that the task of saving and preserving wildlife is herculean. Large amount of funds would be required to execute conservation projects all around the world, not to mention the need of a dedicated and passionate workforce for this cause. It may be because of these reasons that it seems much less of a trouble to save the species known and beneficial to us. Practically it may be advocated, but morally it is extremely unjust, given that we are mainly responsible for these conditions in the first place.

To conclude, it is an aberration to think of saving a few species of wildlife and not others. Every species has a value in themselves and a right to continued existence. Human beings should preserve them whether or not it is convenient or economically beneficial for people. Extinction is forever; we must act now.
