Today more and more old cities are being rebuilt and redesigned in order to be modernized. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend? Give your opinion and relevant examples.

A great many cities nowadays are on the way towards modernization. Although this shall provide better infrastructure in conformity with the latest trends, yet there are some drawbacks that cannot be overlooked. This essay shall discuss both these sides further.

The renovation of houses according to modern standards shall prove to be beneficial in terms of accommodation and other supplementary amenities. For example, old low rise buildings look really outdated when compared to high rise apartments with a club house or a big garden or a spacious compound. Some new buildings have central air conditioning and swanky voice or finger print activated security systems too. Also, rebuilding such high rise apartments and redesigning the land plots to take less space shall allow the roads to get more widened in addition to new stretches of roads being formed, giving an urban impression of the city.

On the contrary, there are some negative impacts on some people's life. Urban modernization will probably push up the housing prices as a huge amount of money goes into these projects. This may result in some people ending up in a smaller house than before which may dissatisfy them. Moreover, certain areas in the old cities are occupied by particular communities. Modernization shall scatter these family bonds that have been developed since many years. Although modernization promotes harmony, it may be possible that some people would not feel very good about these huge lifestyle and communal changes.

Therefore to conclude, urban modernization has both advantages and disadvantages. I personally feel the advantages are more to look forward to, and the disadvantages seem to be quite solvable with a few efforts.
