We use “Wait for…’
before a noun and/or a pronoun:
I
am waiting for you.
I
daily wait here for my bus.
Wait for a while, the doctor shall attend to you shortly.
“Wait for…’ can also be used with
negatives and interrogatives:
I
just can’t wait for Friday!! This reunion is going to be
great!
Couldn’t you wait for me for 5 more
minutes?? I was on my way!
We use “Wait to…’
before a verb:
I
am waiting to go there since 4 days.
I
will wait to buy new clothes till I
get my pocket money next month.
I
was waiting after the class
yesterday to talk to the professor
about my grades.
Similarly, “Wait to…’ can also be used
with negatives and interrogatives:
I’m
so hungry I can’t wait to have
lunch!
Can’t you wait to play with my new puppy? He’s
very friendly!
